RAN Chicago Activist Meeting
2050 W Waveland Ave #2, 60618
Chicago, IL
Come join Rainforest Action Network staff and supporters in Chicago as we prepare to launch our newest campaign. We're taking on giant Agribusiness for destroying the rainforest and harming land-dependent communities around the world, and we need your help in Chicago.
RAN’s new Agribusiness campaign will target the US agribusiness giants—Archer Daniels Midland, Cargill, and Bunge—for their role in the expansion of destructive palm oil and soy plantations across the world. They are responsible for clear cutting pristine tropical ecosystems, ignoring the rights of land-dependent communities, and are associated with plantations that have deplorable working conditions, including slave labor. For more information about the RAN agribusiness campaign, visit: http://ran.org/what_we_do/rainforest_agribusiness/ .
Chicago is a key location for all of these companies. The agricultural commodities exchange--where these corporations conduct the heart of their financial business--is in Chicago, and all three companies have significant Chicago offices. So we are focusing in on Chicago with plans to bring a delegation of affected community members from Brazil, Indonesia, Paraguay, and Papua New Guinea to Chicago in November. We're also planning events all across the Midwest this fall—including a protest at Archer Daniel Midland’s November shareholder's meeting in Decatur, IL.
But we can't do it alone. My colleague Andrea Samulon and I will be in Chicago early next week, and we want to meet you in person. We need your help to make this happen! This is your chance to get involved locally, meet other RAN supporters, and work together as a community to help launch a powerful new campaign to protect tropical rainforests and their inhabitants.
